Booth's poverty map

WebBooth conducted research in London, between 1886 and 1903. After interviews with the poor, doctors, teachers and priests, he came to the conclusion that 30% of people in London lived in poverty. Webof poverty areas over time an d the relationship between poverty areas and economic activity. This paper describes spatial analysis of poverty in late 19 th century London. The main source on poverty at the time is the multi-volume Life and Labour of the People in London (Booth, 1891) and the maps of poverty published by Booth in 1889 and 1899.
